How Often Should You Get New Glasses?

If you wear glasses you know it is necessary to get new lenses regularly. But how often should you switch them out? It depends on why you are making the change. The biggest reason you may need new eyeglasses is that your prescription is no longer working for your eyes. Individuals 18 and older should schedule a comprehensive eye exam every two years. If you are over the age of 65 or an at-risk patient, we recommend having these exams annually. Our optometrist at Eyezone Optical in Mayfield Heights can help you figure out if your prescription is still correct during your eye exam.

Signs You Need New Eyeglasses

Sometimes, you will know your prescription isn’t good enough even before your eye exam. If you start experiencing any of these symptoms, it may be time to move up that appointment with our eye doctor and get new glasses.

You squint: Squinting to see better should not be necessary when you are wearing your glasses.

Your vision is blurry: If your vision is fuzzy around the edges, it is time to visit our optometrist.

Your eyes feel tired: Eye fatigue can be a symptom of several different conditions, including allergies or just not getting enough sleep. If the condition persists for more than a day or two, it could mean your glasses aren’t doing their job.

You get frequent headaches: The wrong glasses prescription can cause eye strain and lead to painful headaches. If you have been experiencing frequent headaches and don’t know the cause, it could be that you need new glasses.

Getting the prescription right isn’t the only reason your eyewear needs a change. Glasses also need to be changed out every few years because they get scratched or accumulate dirt. Our team at our optical shop can help you pick out new frames if your glasses are falling apart due to everyday wear and tear.
